Rob Lowe and the Need for Daycare

The latest Rob Lowe scandal has peaked the interest of GoLeft and the structure of privatized childcare in this country. GoLeft questions the use of private nannies even when most studies continue to show the benefit of daycare settings for children. Also, why is the nanny industry predominately young women. Most nannies are vulnerable not only economically but placed in individual homes where their isolation increases the opportunity for abuse. GoLeft believes if this were a more regulated (unionized) industry, 1) there would be more men hired and 2) there be more protection for workers as well as opportunity for mediation between workers and employers. I am a progressive, but this is my first time to this website (and I don’t know why). I agree 100 per cent on this article. Why are nannies young and inexperienced (when we all see them in movies as being older, wiser, and shrew)? We meed more Nanny McPhee’s around.
