Hey Tyra: Wearing Meat is Murder

GoLeft experienced shock and awe watching yesterday’s America’s Next Top Model episode. The ANTM photo shoot had the models go to the meat-packing district in NYC where they then had to pose wearing dead animal flesh.

To consider the lesser of two evils and assume that after the photo shoot, the meat was discarded rather then put pack into our food supply - ANTM never discusses what happens to the meat - the purpose of those animal’s death then is reduced to being used in a photo shoot. Tyra has moved the shallowness and barbarity of the fur industry to the meat industry.

To know that we live in a world where thousands of people choose to refrain from eating meat or pray over the dead body of animals for their sacrifice when they do eat meat is lost in this episode where the models, photographers, judges are so dissociated from the reality that they are wearing the flesh of formerly living creatures.

And GoLeft continues to look to pop culture for a barometer for where we are as a culture and where we stand as organizers working toward a better world. I am interested in the response this episode inspires and wonder how people will respond the issues of cruelty and waste that were displayed.
